Downtown Latrobe WELCOMES
“Coffee Bean Neighborhood Café” this Spring! INSIDE THE LATROBE ART CENTER!
LATROBE, Pennsylvania, April 1, 2010 – Another exciting announcement from the Latrobe Community Revitalization Program (LCRP) —The Coffee Bean Neighborhood Café will open this spring in downtown Latrobe inside the Latrobe Art Center located on the corner of Main & Ligonier Streets.
Three very successful Coffee Bean Cafes are located along Route 30 in Latrobe, Greensburg, and Irwin. Owner Dale Personett is known for his unique, house blend coffees, caffe lattes, and espresso. “We are thrilled that Dale has decided to open a Coffee Bean Café in downtown Latrobe! This will be a wonderful addition to our downtown--and to have the café located inside the Latrobe Art Center is an added plus! What a special atmosphere! Customers can relax and enjoy a robust cup of coffee while being surrounded by fabulous artwork of over 80 local artists. The Latrobe Art Center features paintings, sculptures, handmade jewelry, stained glass, pottery, fabric arts, woodworking, photography, hand painted cards, and homemade pillows,” commented Annette Couch, Director of the Latrobe Community Revitalization Program.
Gabrielle “Gabi” Nastuck, Administrative & Artistic Director of the Latrobe Art Center remarked, “The Latrobe Art Center is thrilled and very excited to have this new addition. This is exactly what our “neighborhood” needs. We will be working side by side with the Coffee Bean to make this a very unique place to be. The Neighborhood Café will also be open when we have special events, receptions, workshops, classes, and open-mic nights. Latrobe Art Center is a most accommodating place to host showers, luncheons, club meetings, and more. The options are endless and the Neighborhood Café is available!
Close your eyes and imagine sitting at one of our bistro tables, checking email while sipping your coffee and eating a luscious piece of cheesecake. You are surrounded by beautiful artwork, the aroma of the coffee is amazing, and the acoustic music playing in the background is so relaxing. It’s a great escape from your busy, hectic day in the neighborhood. And most importantly, when you come in to the Neighborhood Café, we will always make you feel extra special!”
Barbara H. Nakles, Chair of the Greater Latrobe School District’s Art Conservation Trust, had this to say, “We remember that when to walk in downtown Latrobe meant that we would meet everyone we knew. We would stop and talk and catch up on all the important and unimportant things in our lives. The Latrobe Art Center has brought back a little of those days. Now, with the Coffee Bean Neighborhood Cafe at the Center, it will bring back more. Coffee, conversation, community—all in a beautiful and inspiring setting—means the corner of Main and Ligonier is alive again!”
Take a walk, take a stroll through downtown Latrobe and visit our new neighbor—The Coffee Bean Neighborhood Café! Coming this spring!
“Our ultimate goals are to enhance Latrobe’s downtown appearance, increase foot traffic throughout downtown Latrobe and retain or recruit business to our area. With the recent kick off of Latrobe’s Façade Improvement Program along with the ongoing Lloyd Avenue Gateway Improvement Project, and our Redd Up Latrobe Project, we believe that we are making tremendous strides,” said Couch
LCRP LAUNCHES LATROBE'S FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
|
LATROBE, Pennsylvania, March 19, 2010 – The Latrobe Community Revitalization Program (LCRP) is pleased to announce the implementation of Latrobe’s Façade Improvement Program! A $30,000 Façade Improvement Grant received from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s (DCED) Main Street Program will be used as an incentive to stimulate private investment in façade renovations in the downtown.
This 50/50 matching grant program provides financial assistance to eligible downtown business owners with property owner’s approval and commercial building owners whose properties are located within Latrobe’s Main Street District’s target area. The total reimbursement, per façade, will not exceed $5,000.00 and/or will not exceed 50% of the total project cost.
“Our ultimate goals are to enhance Latrobe’s downtown appearance and retain or recruit business to this area. Façade and storefront renovations are one of the most effective and proven ways to improve the image of a commercial area. Latrobe’s Façade Improvement Program will have a significant positive and lasting impact on our commercial district,” commented Annette Couch, Director of the Latrobe Community Revitalization Program.
Façade improvements may include exterior lighting, awning improvements, paint, signage, window/door improvements, woodwork and brick work. Applicants are encouraged to follow the state approved guidelines outlined in the Latrobe Façade Design Manual when planning their project. They are also required to meet with the LCRP Design Committee to present a preliminary plan and discuss their proposed project prior to completing the application process. Applications for the LCRP Project Design Grant are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed as they are received. Only pre-approved work will be eligible for this grant program.
“The program’s intent is to create a fresh and homogeneous look in the downtown district. We are excited to work with businesses and property owners to create a new look for storefronts and an inviting place for patrons and visitors” commented Joe Bleehash, Design Committee Chair and also a local architect. “Being born and raised in Latrobe I have seen the transformations that have taken place within the downtown area. The history and unique architectural elements make both a challenging and exciting opportunity for a superb outcome”.
To obtain a Latrobe Façade Design Manual and application form, visit the LCRP’s website at: www.latroberevitalization.org or call Annette Couch at the LCRP office 724-805-0112. For specific design questions and details, contact Joe Bleehash, LCRP Design Chair at: 724-537-7710. Please mention the Façade Improvement Program when calling.
“Kicking off the Façade Program along with the ongoing Lloyd Avenue Gateway Improvement Project directed by Ron Weimer, LCRP Board Chair, in cooperation with the utility companies, home owners, the Homes Build Hope organization, and the City of Latrobe now in Phase II with Phase III to follow, we feel we are making a significant effort to enhance our community,” said Couch.
The LCRP’s Redd Up Latrobe Project will continue this year as soon as the weather breaks to remove graffiti and broom clean parking lots and alley ways; coordinate improvements at Legion Keener and Creekside Parks and our neighborhood playgrounds; and to beautify Latrobe’s downtown train station and its environs. “I am excited about Latrobe’s Façade Improvement Program. It is another big step in the right direction for our city,” remarked Annette Couch.
